Enlisting the Help of Professionals

The difference that having someone in your corner makes

Much of my own life experience informs my practice and I strive to always practice what I preach. My life tells a story of someone who found his path after years of struggle. Before committing myself to the path of personal growth and self mastery I was lost. Bouncing back and forth from bouts of depression or anxiety I was frequently feeling trapped. I was at the mercy of the powers that be and got seriously off track. It wasn’t until I decided one day to pursue the life I always imagined for myself that things started to turn around. That was when I quit my job in Philadelphia and packed my car to drive across the country to start a new life for myself in California. At that point there was no turning back. I’d committed to a new vision for my life. One that had only previously existed in my imagination.

I knew that moving to California was my chance for redemption and I was willing to do whatever it took to make a life for myself that I could be proud of. That was back in 2008 when I was just 24 years old. It was at that point that I started reading everything that I could get my hands on that had to do with personal growth and self mastery. The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle had been recommended by a friend of mine and before long I’d read every book he had written. There was something so soothing about the idea that we don’t have to live in fear of what could happen in the future or stay stuck ruminating over our past mistakes or negative circumstances.

It was at that time that I began taking responsibility for cultivating peace and happiness in my life having realized that no one was going to do it for me. It’s been a long journey, one that continues to this day, but the results have been nothing short of remarkable. Most people who knew me then have a hard time believing that I’m the same person that they knew growing up. The changes and improvements have been that dramatic and the great thing is that the things that I learned and put into practice are available to everyone. Things like building confidence and self-esteem, finding success at work, finding and managing relationships that enrich rather than drain, achieving calm and clarity through mindfulness and meditation, overcoming insecurities, making major life changes that are congruent with our values and learning how to find joy and satisfaction in every day life.

While its true that I benefited greatly from all the books that I’d read and the self-care that I poured myself into, it wasn’t until I started working with professionals that could guide me along my path that I began to see real results. I’d been fighting a losing battle with insomnia ever since my freshman year of college. Try as I might I just couldn’t seem to be able to fall asleep when I wanted to. Even with the aid of prescription sleeping pills I was constantly waking up feeling groggy and sluggish. Finally fed up with living this way I decided to swallow my pride and admit I had a problem when I booked my first appointment with an NLP practitioner. I took a chance on her because she claimed that she could help me get to the root of what was causing my brain to keep short-circuiting.

Over the course of that first session she listened very intently on what was going on for me before getting a sense of what might be going on under the surface. She helped me uncover the underlying beliefs that had been running this mental program that wouldn’t leave my mind alone. As it turned out I was suffering from debilitating levels of fear. It all made sense once she laid it out there on the table for me to see. It’s just that these thoughts and feelings had been submerged for so long that I only ever noticed their symptoms.

I encountered many obstacles on the road to recovery but with the trusted help of people like Cinthia I made it through on the other side better than I could have ever imagined. My work with Cinthia kicked off what has become a life-long commitment to overcoming the emotional and practical hurdles that have held me back for so many years. Since beginning this journey with Cinthia all those years ago I have worked with psychotherapists, hypnotherapists, Zen teachers and life coaches who have all played pivotal roles in helping to peal back the layers of the onion that have been the reasons for so much needless pain and suffering.

To be clear, I am not a therapist. I am a career coach and as a career coach my job is to leverage all of my skills, insights and experience in the support of helping you find your own peace and happiness by helping you identify and live your purpose. Our work will center around a series of questions designed to uncover what it is that you truly want for yourself, developing an action plan on how to get there and taking deliberate steps towards overcoming any and all obstacles that may be in your path.
